The Spanish Government is dedicating over 14 million in US dollars to try and entice more people to travel to the areas of Northern Spain and its interiors this holiday season. The effort is a response to the falling number of tourists who visited the country during the beginning of 2008.

Spain tourismThe government aims to attract middle class visitors because they tend to spend more than those that purchase package deals with the intent of simply lying on the beach and relaxing.

Figures show that currently United States tourists have spent 21 million Euros in Spain which is a 7.6% decrease from 2008.

The largest drop in tourists was in those that visit from Britain, at a decrease of 16.3% which is thought to be because of the current economic recession which has hit the pound value more drastically than other regions.
