The State meteorological agency (AEMET) announced Wednesday, the arrival of a heat wave, set to last until Friday. The heat wave is due to a surge in hot air from North Africa.

The surge in temperatures throughout the peninsula are expected to reach up to 38-39ºC in Andalucia, Aragon, Catalonia, Castilla-La Mancha, Valencia, La Rioja, Madrid, Murcia and Navarra.

The ministry of health has issued a warning to those groups most prone to high temperatures, including those above the age of 75, babies and handicapped individuals.

It is advisable to stay in the shade and drink enough fluids.
