During the month of May a total of 71,161 cars were registered, or 38.7 per cent less than the same month in 2008. During the first five months of the year, a total of 336,366 cars were sold, which results in a 42 per cent decline, compared to the same period the previous year.

Car sales to private individuals appears to have only registered a 23 per cent decline, which suggest that the 2000€ plan is taking affect, which provides 2000€ to those that purchase a new car that is less contaminating, when turning in their old one.

ANFAC, Spain association of car producers, hope that the 2000€ plan would help reduce the serious crisis in the sector with around 100,000 additional vehicle sales that thanks to the government’s stimulus plan.
