The number of tourists visiting Lanzarote continues to fall as the global slowdown takes it’s effect on tourism.
With recently released figures from AENA, the Spanish airport operators, revealing that arrivals dropped by over 19% in February. The trend suggests that the current economic crisis is now biting deeply into Lanzarote´s all important tourist industry. The data raises questions over the upcoming tourism season.
The new AENA figures show that visitor numbers from the UK – Lanzarote´s largest market – have now fallen by 18.82% across the first two months of this year, versus 2008 figures. With similar declines evident across all other markets – such as Germany. Where the number of arrivals dropped back by 13.36% over the same two month period.
